I haven't talked about it yet, but I have a gym membership at a local gym. I got the membership in October when I re-started my "weight loss journey" (as they say in Weight-Watchers-land). You haven't heard about the gym because, um, I haven't been to the gym. Well, I haven't been since December 21st, anyway. Last night, I went back to the gym.
At our gym, they had this super-cool motivational contest where you weigh-in October 29-November 2nd, and then you weigh-out January 1st-4th. If you maintained or lost weight through the holidays you won a free gym bag. A gym bag! For free! Sweet! I'm all about free, so I participated. It was good motivation, because, yeah, did I mention I'd get something for free? And I was trying to lose weight anyway, so ... sweet! Free gym bag!
Yesterday I'd decided to blow off working out, and I had no intention of going to the gym, but last night I remembered it was my last day to weigh-out for the contest. So around 9:30 PM I put on workout clothes and headed to the gym for the first time in two weeks.
Don't get all excited about my wonderful workout, though. The workout is nothing to get worked up about. You see, I put on workout clothes, and I went to the gym, but I didn't actually work out.
How sad is that?
The good news is that I did win my free gym bag. I'd lost about 7.5 lbs according to their scale. Woo hoo! Free gym bag! Actually, the gym bag was kind of a piece of crap. But so what - free!
But how pathetic is it that I managed to put on workout clothes, get my ass out of my house, get over to the gym, and then not work out? Ugh. Last night it seemed like a fine plan - I needed to wear the same clothes pre/post, it was late and I was hungry. Last night it all made sense. Now, the next morning, it seems a little nuts to me.
Ahhh, well, whataryagonnado?
I won't make it to the gym this weekend - they have very few group fitness classes over the weekends, so I might as well use my stationary bike and dumbbells at home - but I am SO getting my ass back to the gym on Monday. And this time, I'll actually work out there.

Free! A little pathetic, but free!

Hahaha... you soudn like me. I haven't been to the gym in over a year. I intended to do the pre natal exercise classes they offer while I was pregnant, but never got around to it. And I hadn't been for a few months before I get pregnant. Nice waste of money, huh!
As soon as I get clearance from my doctor that I can start exercising, I'm going to TRY to get back to some kind of schedule. I suck at working out so bad. I just hate it, but I know it's good for me, so I have to find a way to make it more fun. Wish us both luck!! lol
Well, good luck to us both! I have to really push myself to work out. I love how I feel after I exercise, but making it happen can be a challenge.
A year or 18 months ago I bought a stationary bike. Since October, between the bike and the gym I've tended to get 3 cardio sessions in a week ... except for over the past 2 weeks.
Something about not having to leave the house helps. I work from home, and there are some days that leaving the house is more than I can manage. (Sad but true.)
congrats on the free gym bag and 7lbs. Nothing like those motivators!
Keep it up! (or down, as the case may be) :)
Hey, so what??? YOU can honestly say YOU WENT TO THE GYM, right? And that took something to get there, you had to walk to the car, right? You had to walk into the gym right? THat's worth something!!!
And I am soo like you. I wear the exact same clothes to weigh in every week for WW.
And yay for you for 7.5 pounds... that is how much I have lost give or take .1 since I started WW on Dec. 1!!! Isn't it a great feeling to be this ahead of the weight loss game this early in the new year!!
Congrats Manic! 7.5ish lbs in December is darned impressive. If you look only at December I'm back where I started, but I'm not going to do that. Big picture, right? I'm at 10 lb-ish lost so far now total (the gym thang started after I started losing). I'm half way there (livin' on a prayer).
OK, it isn't exactly halfway, but the song wouldn't work if I said approximately half way there ...
Hooray for ahead-of-the-game-ness. I'm patting you on the back. [patpatpat]
I saw your about me and just had to comment. You made me laugh right out loud! I always that that every good plan included duct tape, bailing wire and chewing gum.
I too work from the house and I know exactly what you mean when you say it's more than you can manage to leave the house some days. I have a treadmill and free weights that I often use at home rather than going to the gym.
Ohh, perhaps chewing gum has been the missing element of my plan. I'll save that goat yet!
I'm a little jealous of your treadmill. We don't have room for it right now. Someday I may convince my husband to re-purpose a room, but that hasn't happened yet.
Anyway, as long as we're working out who cares where it's happening, right? (That makes it sound like I'm consistently working out these days. How misleading.)
I already have so many bags lying around my house that winning another one would be motivation NOT to enter a contest. But congrats on the loss!
This bag may end up going into a garage sale; getting it wasn't so much the most logical thing. I don't need any more bags, either. But ... FREE!
Thanks for the congrats. You're doing SO well, yourself.
p.s...the WW "gym" bags suck too. They're thin and flimsy...and a toot could put a hole through it.
But HEY! Free IS free!
