Couch to 5k Week 3: In Progress

Alternate Title: “You’re going the wrong way!”

On Sunday I wrote about doing my Couch to 5k Week 3 Day 1 run, and how I got these crazy side stitches. Well, thanks to some great advice from Cami, I ran a side-stitch-free week 3 day 2 on Monday. Thanks Cami!

I’m extra-glad to rid myself of side stitches as I do more research into what causes them. It seems that as you go running down the road, you’re bouncing your guts all around. If you don’t get your steps and breathing just right, you stretch ligaments that hold your liver in place, which causes pain. Yikes! I need that liver for cleaning up my blood and creating its fat-breaker-downer stuff! I’m glad Cami helped me figure out how to jog without joggling my liver around.

Week 3 day 2 went really well – better than I expected given my discomfort on day 1. I’m due to run week 3 day 3 today, but I’m a little concerned about having time for it. I’ll have to run it at lunch time to fit it into my day. Let’s hope it isn’t raining.

The whole week is concerning, actually. Once again I saw an increase on the scale this morning. Unlike yesterday, if I look at my weight today vs. my weight a week ago, now I see a slight gain. Ack! Like I said yesterday, it’s time to get back to the basics and focus. But every single night this week I have to go out in the evening for one reason or another. Every night involves a food-related social events in restaurants I didn’t select. This is a rough week to try to get back to the basics.

Of course, if I maintain or gain this week, I can lose next week. I totally get it – this one week is not tragic from a big picture perspective. Life happens, and when it comes right down to it I wouldn’t want to give up weeks like this. I am trying to be patient. In time I will get to goal. But to be so close, and be moving backwards … it’s maddening!

Hey, Happy!

Still waiting on those pictures.. :)

As for the scale, remember it is going to fluctuate, whether from sodium or eating out. That's real life. But remember you have and are making BIG progress. Compare today with last month. You are doing great. Just do your best with this week and keep working on the next week.

I'm glad day 2 went a little better then day 1! I have the same issues when I run so this will be helpful when I can finally get back out there!!!
You are doing great, enjoy your week!

I get so frustrated sometimes with the gain/lose cycle too, even though I know whats going on!

The next few weeks are going to be hard for me too, Bachelorette Party, Rehearsal Dinner and a Wedding...Yikes...I'm just holding on for the ride.

Ouch! Joggling your liver does not sound like a good thing! Glad you got that straightened out. :-)

It is so frustrating to be derailed or slowed down by things that are beyond your control. You do have every right to be very proud of your progress though. Just try to enjoy the week, because it's only one week, and get back to the basics when you can. Regardless of what the scale says, you are making HUGE progress!

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I appreciate the encouragement. I love your sense of humor, also...so much like my own. hehe

Also, I'm not the only Cleopatra in the blogosphere. I see on your sidebar over there that you like to cruise denial with me.

Oww! Liver ligament stretching. Yikes! Glad you got that one figured out, and I admire your determination to push through it. I was reading some of your posts that I missed this week, and wondered if there were other WW meetings around that might be smaller? It might help with your current need to get back to basics, though for what it's worth, it sounds like you have it all under control all on your own. Have a great week, and thanks for the book suggestion- I will be sure to check it out!

Just thought I'd say thanks for stopping by and cheering me on at 365-25. Also, while I may not comment, I'm reading your posts to remind me to keep on keeping on! Thanks.

Ouch - glad you got you stitches worked out. I've been thinking about the C25K again myself. I started it late summer, but when it got cold out I quit. Now that I'm in the gym I've been thinking about it again. Thanks for reminding me about that.

you have the right attitude! I need to do what you just said and look at the bigger picture, rather than a week or 2. you are doin great and making wonderful choices with food and exercise, so I know you will see the results you want.

Glad your "side stiches" are subsiding..ouch!Like you said, Life Happens and it is so hard when you have to keep going out & eating out. It's hard to eat as well as when you aren't. DO your best and just be extra good on those days when you can do your own thing. You are doing great.

Being patient is easier said than done, and I don't think it's particularly easy at any stage of the weight loss/fitness journey. In fact, I think it gets more difficult over time. I know I found it pretty easy to be philosophical early in my plan, but it has become more difficult over time.

Ok I am going to start my running today. If I try really hard, I can catch up and get back on track. My scales hated me this morning. :(
